Apostolic greetings, CAC Family!
I trust that this first week of the 2013 New Year finds you prospering even as your soul prospers, in Jesus’ Name.
I’m writing from Mansfield, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth. Pastor Steve Pixler hosts a two-day Pastor’s Retreat that is truly inspirational and refreshing. What a blessing to be here with the likes of Bros. Martyn Ballestero, Donald Lance, Rudy Thrasher, Tim Pixler, Sam Emory, Buddy Carrol, Tim Rivers, Steven Rivers, Joseph Conroy, … the list goes on. It’s a wonderful, diverse group of about 25 ministers in all, some pastors, missionaries, music ministers, and evangelists. Our main common denominator is our love for the truth of the Acts 2:38 gospel and its liberal spread to all people.
For this week’s edition, I’ve located a concise outline of the chapter The Lord laid on my heart for our Watchnight sermon. Truly, this encompasses God’s vision for CAC. Have you received the revelation? Please open your Bible to Philippians 2 and follow along for a very insightful “rightly dividing” of the entire chapter. (There are a few announcements at the end, so please keep reading).
The Challenge from Paul (2:1–18):
He desires that the church strive for humility.
A. The essentials in humility (2:1–4)
1. Unity in love (2:1–2a)
2. Unity in spirit and purpose (2:2b–4)
B. The example of humility (2:5–11): Paul holds up the earthly ministry of Christ.
1. The pain (2:5–8b)
a. Even though he was God, he did not cling to his rights as God (2:5–6).
b. He laid aside his glory (2:7a).
c. He took upon himself the nature of a human servant (2:7b).
d. He humbled himself (2:8a).
e. He became obedient and died on the cross (2:8b).
2. The gain (2:9–11)
a. God has exalted him to the highest place (2:9a).
b. He has been given a name above all other names (2:9b).
c. Someday all people will acknowledge that he is Lord (2:10–11).
C. The exhortation to humility (2:12–18)
1. Let God perfect in you his salvation (2:12–13).
2. Don’t complain (2:14).
3. Shine as beacons of light in a dark world (2:15).
4. Hold to the Word of life (2:16).
5. Rejoice with Paul in his sacrifice (2:17–18).
As God’s growing and thriving family, let’s grab ahold of the revealed purpose of God’s work as clearly spelled out above! How exciting it is to have a driving, compelling, VISION to give meaning to all we do for God’s kingdom. Remember, “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose!” (Romans 8:28).
Tonight, my wife will be the lead adult escort to Fort Collins for all the Youth One group who would like a van ride to the Colorado UPC Youth Convention. Departure is 5:00 SHARP from the CAC parking lot. Bro. Jimmy Toney is the evening evangelist. I have no doubt that is will be a highly impacting service for each of our youth.
One last announcement: A week from this Sunday, January 13, we’ll host our monthly Missions weekend. Our guest missionary is Rev. Tim Rivers who is embarking upon a brand new endeavor in Sri Lanka! We’ll be thrilled to hear about the doors The Lord has opened in that heavily Islamic country which is deeply in need of the Apostolic witness.
God bless your day in a rich way! I look forward to the fellowship of the Spirit this Sunday at both services. Please continue in fervent prayer for God’s perfect will to be accomplished and for souls to be filled with the Holy Ghost!
In sincere shepherd love,
Pastor Don Haymon
